SharePoint and launching Excel Spreadsheets Problems

Working in SP I regularly get complaints about excel spreadsheets not opening and getting the following message:

Turns out this is related to the default setting in the advanced settings of each library.

Default is: “Use the server default (Open in browser)”

Preferred option is: “Open in Client application”

CM8 Increasing Attribute length

I always thought it was possible to increase the length of a CM8 Attribute but not shorten it as it may impact existing data – that makes sense to me…..

However, there is no easy way to increase the size of an attribute if it has been assigned to an Item type. Below a link to IBM technote detailing your options if you find yourself in this sticky situation:

Automating ICM Event & Monitor Handlers

The ICM Event Monitor and Handler can be used for a variety of tasks from automatically creating workitems in FileNet to generating email notifications when new documents are added to the repository.

However these tasks are manually trigger from the command line and do not have a password switch making an automated restart tricky.

Well here is a little gem that I hope helps someone else. Batch file are read from right to left meaning the following line would execute as:

Start Event Handler
Prompt for password
Echo passes password to the prompt
Task starts automatically

echo ‘password’ | ICMEvent.sh -d ‘database’ -u ‘user’

I believe this also works on UNIX in shell scripts.
